I think that changing the Tanganyika event to a pay event for first time participants at the last minute is an under handed and dishonest act. I have participated in G2G events and spoke highly of the group and your efforts ALL Summer. I have several friends ready to attend the event at Tanganyika, and at the last minute you decide to charge them because they didn’t know about your organization before. When did you establish a charge for the first event a family participated in?
I will no longer be participating in you events and am sorely disappointed in your decisions.

  2. OH Says:

    Hi,
I am very confused and need some help. First, how do you sign up to be part of G2G? I have read about passports but have no clue how to get them. I can’t find an email address on your site either to contact someone. Second, I see you are now charging for the TW park on Wednesday…bummer. On Wednesdays, TW Park has free child ticket with adult ticket. Does this mean if I pay the $5 for myself and husband that our children are in free?

If you could please help me w/ the above info, I would really appreciate it! Thank you so much!!!

    James,

I have received your comments regarding our decisions to handle Tanganyika, and want to address some of your stated concerns.

First, g2g does not receive FREE admission to Tanganyika like we have at our other venues (Botanica and Sedgwick County Zoo waived the entire cost for our group admission because they are both largely funded by county tax dollars.) Tanganyika is a private venue in Goddard, and thus gave us a discounted rate of $5/person (their regular rate is $12/person – 60% savings). In order for our faithful g2g Families to receive “free” entrance and admission into the park, we are using our grant dollars to cover that cost. With funds from the Kansas Health Foundation we are grateful to be able to even cover that cost.

We added this event within the last month as a form of “icing on the cake”/reward for all of our families that have been faithful to the program throughout the summer. Our aim is to make outdoor play accessible to all families without financial burden. However, the main purpose of our program is to “encourage kids and families to play outside, reconnect families to nature, and increase physical activity in the great outdoors.” The foundation of our program is to provide teachable moments at parks that are always free so that families go back to play again and again.

We provide “Explore” events at Wichita outdoor museums (i.e. – Botanica, Zoo, Tanganyika) only once a month, as a bonus, to engage new families that will hopefully begin coming to our park events on a regular basis. We have been privileged to be able to offer “Explore” events so far this year for free, but because of the unique circumstances with Tanganyika, we will not be able to offer this event completely free and still have enough funds to run g2gOutside year round.

I hope this addresses some of your concerns and we hope to see you and your family tomorrow night.

    Thank you,

    Whitney, g2gOutside Coordinator

Can you provide more information and details on the October 21st Expore Event? I am really interested for my family and would like to share with our Parents as Teachers families. Thank you.

        good morning Jacinda!

The event on October 21st will be at the A-Maze-In Grace Corn Maze on Harry & Webb (connected with the Christ Community Church near that intersection). We will share a little lesson (regarding corn, pumpkins, animals, fall festivity related things), and then the parents and the children will wonder through the maze together. Bring your flashlight! email me your information as well – for some reason I can’t access your email through your response!

I love your organization, and while I missed out on the winter events, I am excited to get back to participating with my family. Being new to Wichita, this organization has helped me to get acquainted with all Wichita has to offer while allowing me to get outside with my kids and learn about low cost activities to do with my kids. I would be happy to occassionally pay a small fee to support the organization in an exciting activity like Tanganika. I’m sorry I was so busy working that I missed out. G2G rocks!

  4. Kisha Says:

Thanks for all of the great events you have put on this summer! We weren’t able to come to the ones in June and early July, but we were able to go to Botanica and the events after that date. I hope you will continue to offer new events!

  5. Charissa Says:

How can I sign up for email updates for upcoming events so in case I forget to check the website I can still know what is going on? :) Also do you have a Facebook so I could keep updated that way? If you don’t you should think about getting one as lots of people use Facebook. Thanks for the great events!

Your activities sound great. How do I sign up to get e-mails about your upcoming events, etc.?

    Thanks

  9. Mila Says:

    Hi,
I am not quite sure how I find the North Island at LAke Afton for the Camping event?

    1. Travel West on Kellogg to 231st St and turn South (left). Then turn right on McArthur, also called 39th St S. You will turn left (South) in to Lake Afton Park and follow the g2g signs (we’ll put them up around 4:30ish) to where we’ll meet.

  10. Jacinda Says:

The camping event was 5 star! Thank you, thank you. Dinner was delcious and such a clever and practical way to cook on an open fire. We are anxious to do it again. It was so well planned and so much fun! Thank you for the dinner, dessert and all the neat activities and give aways. Hooray for G2G!

  11. Mila Says:

Tonya and all the organizators! Thanks a lot for hosting camping at Lake Afton! We really enjoyed all activities and food (finally didnt stay for a night though). Looking forward attending more events!

  12. [...] You won’t need poles or any other fishing equipment for this free event. On Wednesday, May 30, 2012, g2g Outside will have a free Family Fishing Night at the Great Plains Nature Center, 6232 E 29th Street North. It’s practically a guarantee that every kid will catch a fish. The event goes from 5:30 p.m. until 7 p.m., but showing up a few minutes early is probably a pretty good idea if you can do it. For more about the event or to ask questions, visit the g2g Outside events page. [...]

With internet radio, you get pretty much what you want, when you want.
As business owners recognize the swaying power
of using audio to communicate the value and quality of their products
and services, online audio will come of age in a big
way. Many think that having thoughts of supposed
happiness that will never come is futile and that they are only giving false hopes to
those who need them the most.
